Senior Programs
Crossroads Internship
A small cohort of Crossroads Scholars have the opportunity to participate in the Crossroads Internship Program. If accepted, scholars engage in meaningful and skill-building paid summer internships with businesses across the city. This competitive program allows scholars to learn relevant job skills and gain real-world professional experience.
Senior Year Kick-off
In August, senior scholars attend a full-day Senior Year Kick-Off event on Duquesne University’s campus, where they hear from admissions and financial aid staff, as well as other campus professionals about the college decision-making process. In addition, Crossroads alumni speak with the rising seniors about how they made their college decision and how they transitioned successfully from high school to college.
Learn, Empower, Advocate, Discover
Upperclassmen scholars have the opportunity to apply to Crossroads' LEAD program, where they build on their talents and strengths while developing strong leadership skills. LEAD projects and initiatives include planning events for other scholars, facilitating programs for underclassmen, and representing Crossroads to board members, donors, and the community.
College Coaching
In this program, scholars are paired with a College Coach, someone who mentors them as they navigate the college search process, and assists them in exploring appropriate college choices, drafting application essays, navigating financial aid applications and FAFSA completion, and interacting with admissions personnel.
College Transition Workshops
During the spring semester, Crossroads collaborates with other Pittsburgh organizations to conduct a series of college transition workshops for Crossroads' graduating class. These sessions address a range of topics, including the basics of personal finance and money management for college students, developing healthy relationships, and much more.
Senior Retreat
In the spring, senior scholars attend a day-long retreat that involves the opportunity for exploration, creativity, and reflection. Components of this day include a guided activity, followed by a debriefing and a group discussion on the transition to college. This day is an opportunity for reflection and introspection for our scholars.
Senior Recognition Dinner
Graduating scholars are honored at this formal banquet, where they are recognized for their achievements and have the opportunity to look back and celebrate their time at Crossroads with family and friends.
500th Fund
The 500th fund offers up to $500 per semester to Crossroads alumni during their first year of college, in an effort to offset the cost of textbooks, lab fees, and other school-related costs. Qualifying alumni must have participated in the Transition Workshops and be enrolled at an accredited institution of higher learning.
