On Thursday, August 6, 38 senior scholars and their families gathered at the Calland Center for Senior Year Kickoff 2026.

The annual event brought together conversations, workshops, and resources focused on the college journey. Scholars and families explored financial aid and FAFSA guidance, admissions, college planning, essay writing, and Common App preparation. Fabian Cotton, Admissions Counselor at Penn State University, led an admissions presentation and Q&A, giving scholars the opportunity to hear directly from a college admissions professional and ask questions about the college process.

Scholars also connected directly with representatives from 10 colleges, universities, and technical schools during the Senior Year Kickoff College Fair: Carnegie Mellon University, Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC), Chatham University, Duquesne University, Penn State University, Point Park University, Robert Morris University, Rosedale Technical College, Saint Francis University, and Washington & Jefferson College.

Families heard from Dr. Anthony Kane, Crossroads board member and Dean of Students – Student Advocacy at Community College of Allegheny County, during a keynote focused on how they can support their scholars throughout senior year.

From college applications and financial aid to planning for life after graduation, Senior Year Kickoff gave the Class of 2027 and their families information, resources, and connections as they begin this important year.
