Celebrating this Year's Distinguished Alumni Recipient: Martell Covington

3.21.2023

“One thing for certain, Crossroads was always there for me.”

At the Scholarship Achievement Awards, alumnus Martell Covington was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award for the excellent work he has accomplished after his time at Crossroads. Originally from Central Catholic, Martell was able to find balance between his time playing football and studies. In part to the skills he learned at Crossroads, he proceeded to attend Howard University with a focus on Business Management. He then spent time in Pittsburgh working for various nonprofits and youth sports programs. It was just a matter of time until he began to work in the political system; from a legislative aide to interim State Representative.

“He had put his best foot forward on the field, and in the classroom. Now, he’s putting his best foot forward in the Pittsburgh community,” says Sister Sandy, the presenter of the award. She had nothing but kind words in regards to Martell, and it’s not difficult to see why. He is incredibly sociable, going through life with a smile on his face. Thank you, Martell Covington, for all the work you have done for Pittsburgh, and for joining us for such a wonderful evening!
