Alumni Spotlight: Ryan McCarthy

Ryan graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1999, a proud member of a hard-working family from the Spring Garden neighborhood of Pittsburgh’s Northside. In 2003, he earned his Bachelor’s in Biology at Penn State University, Main Campus before deploying to Iraq with the United States Army. When he returned, he was awarded the Bronze Star and Combat Medical Badge for his service overseas and went on to earn his Juris Doctor from Georgetown University in Washington, DC in 2012.

Ryan is currently employed by Westinghouse Electric Company, a company offering nuclear products and services to utilities internationally as well as nuclear power plant designs. As Senior Counsel, he serves as a legal counsel and advisor to the business unit responsible for all mergers and acquisitions. He routinely advises business executives and senior leadership on the legal, regulatory, and compliance aspects of large acquisitions and divestitures.

Outside of work, Ryan loves to travel, read, exercise, and reflect. He is an active member of the Crossroads Board of Directors, stating that he loves to give back and spend time with the staff and scholars.

His advice to Crossroads scholars: “Be kind, generous, intellectually curious, and live with an open heart. If you do this, good things will happen for you!”
